Biography

Roland Gillet teaches finance at the Sorbonne and at the ULB. His expertise is recognized internationally.

Roland Gillet completed his doctorate in economics at the Catholic University of Louvain under the supervision of Alexis Jacquemin (Francqui Prize in 1983) and Franco Modigliani (Nobel Prize in Economics in 1985). He finished major (first) in the French national competition for the aggregation of university higher education in management sciences (1999). He is currently a professor of finance at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, where he directs the professional master's degree "Financial management and taxation", and is a full professor at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics & Management of the Free University of Brussels.

He is also, or has been, professor and/or visiting/visiting researcher at various universities around the world: notably in Canada (Sherbrooke); in China (Fudan, Shanghai); and in the United States, at Harvard and M.I.T.

He is the author of several books and numerous articles published in leading scientific journals. Recently, he was called upon by Robert Shiller (Nobel Prize in Economics in 2013) to write the prefaces for two of his most recognized books on financial crises and the irrational exuberance of markets.

Alongside his academic activities, Roland Gillet is, or has been, an expert in various think tanks at the international level, particularly on the crisis in the euro zone (particularly in Greece and Spain) as well as a scientific advisor to various authorities. public and private. He was more recently appointed economic and financial adviser to Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel, who became President of the European Council in December 2019.

The 38th International Conference of the French Finance Association, Saint-Malo (France)

Roland Gillet and Thomas Renault were awarded the Prize for the best article published in Finance in 2019 (Gillet R and Th Renault, "When machines read the Web: market efficiency and costly information acquisition at the intraday level", Finance, Vol. 40 n°2, 2019) by the French Finance Association (AFFI) in 2022 due to the pandemic.

Members of the French Finance Association were invited to attend the 2022 edition of the AFFI International Conference held in Saint Malo, France. This is one of the most renowned conferences at European level where PhD students, professors, central bankers and finance experts exchange on major research topics in finance, in a broad sense. In addition, the last day of the conference is dedicated to PhD students for the presentation of their papers in progress. 

This year, 269 international academic papers were submitted to the AFFI scientific committee headed by Jean-Laurent Viviani. On the programme: the presentation of 112 papers organised in 37 parallel sessions, and at the doctoral seminar level, 18 papers out of 38 were selected to be presented in 6 rigorous sessions.
